Rector’s eNews 36: 13 November 2024
/ UncategorizedOn Sunday, we held our Remembrance Day service; this is an important day in the life of the school and, in the course of this service, a number of seniors read lessons and laid wreaths while E Block boys who had been studying the First World War affixed the names of those who died in various wars to a cross. But the service is not simply about those who died in war; our remembrance extends more widely than that to those in our families and those of our friends who have died more recently and whom we recall fondly on this solemn occasion.
Indeed, I wonder how many of us have lost a family member or a friend recently. So often, over the past years, commentary on the fragility of life becomes a personal issue; just a few weeks ago, I lost a very close friend suddenly. He was apparently in perfect health but developed a clot on his left leg and died very shortly thereafter.
And so, as we grieve and remember, we value our lives and rekindle our purpose in what we do. We are grateful for all that is given to us.
