Rector’s eNews 28: 4 September 2024

/ Uncategorized

It has been a very challenging time for many boys and staff at Michaelhouse as we have just begun to come to terms with the sad passing of Garth Finnemore (E Block Baines) in the horrific car accident on Saturday afternoon. Garth’s parents, Gareth and Olivia, were here at the school the day before as Harry (Grade 6 at DPHS) came for his interview for 2026 on Friday afternoon. We continue to pray for Harry as he remains critical but stable in hospital.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful support over this difficult period; it has been heartening to witness the outpouring of love for the extended Finnemore family and for the boys and staff of Michaelhouse many of whom have been deeply affected.

Our Chaplain, Reverend Chris Meyer and School Counsellor, Mr Tim Jarvis, along with the Baines Housemaster, Mr Matthew Higginson, are in the process of coordinating a programme of counselling/discussion/interaction for boys and staff as we process our sad loss.

At this point the focus of the Finnemore family has been on support for Harry as he lies in hospital and any arrangements that there might be following the accident will be relayed to you in due course.
