As was indicated earlier today, we have specifically held back the publication of this week’s Rector’s eNews so that the major awards made at this afternoon’s Prize Giving Assembly were not compromised. I am sorry that parents were not able to attend as a precaution against Covid-19, but the event did celebrate the success of our top academic performers from last year and some of the more noteworthy achievements appear below:

E Block :
1st – Lucien Baldry
2nd – Kian Moses
3rd – Luke Kaufmann

D Block :
1st – David du Toit
2nd – Aiden Jinnah
3rd – Kofi Asumaning

C Block :
1st – Benjamin Frost
2nd – Reuben Baldry
3rd – Peter Woodland

B Block :
1st – Alexander Brits
2nd – Jaden van der Merwe
3rd – Gustave de Villiers

Sir Henry Strakosch Internal Scholarship
The Sir Henry Strakosch Scholarship is held for one year and is awarded to the top boy in the Block with the best combined mark in Mathematics and Science in his previous year. Based on their 2019 results, the scholarships were won by these boys:
B Block: Alexander Brits
C Block: Benjamin Frost
D Block: Thomas Lahaye
E Block: Matthew Kennedy

John W Hamilton Internal Scholarship
The Hamilton Scholarship is held for one year and is awarded to the boy with the top aggregate in his Block who is not already the recipient of another academic scholarship. Based on their 2019 results, the scholarships were won by the following:
B Block: Alexander Brits
C Block: Peter Woodland
D Block: Theo Apteker
E Block: Luke Kaufmann

House Academic Awards
Academic Achievement (Fleischer Shield): Baines House
Academic Effort (Ralfe Cup): Baines House

Our warm congratulations go to those boys who won awards today. A list of these boys is attached as Appendix A to this eNews.

You may also like to know that the matric results are due out on Friday and we will publish a synopsis of these in our next eNews. We are hoping that our boys will have excelled!

At the other end of the school, 111 Grade 7 boys throughout the country wrote the Academic Scholarship to Michaelhouse this week. This is a record number by a huge margin and it will be enormously prestigious, therefore, to win such a scholarship.
