Rector’s eNews 32: 22 October 2025

It seems as if we have been back for some time this term, mainly as a result of a plethora of significant events in the life of Michaelhouse over the past week. Firstly, on Friday we had our Annual Speech Day, (as opposed to our Prize-Giving), at which there was a special focus on our matriculants, as is our tradition, and at which we honoured Mr Jamie Inglis, who has had so much to do with the development of our Bursary Educational Trust and other infra-structural aspects of Michaelhouse, such as the extended Chapel. (For those parents who are new to the school, our Prize-Giving is a separate event and recognises more boys across all age groups and takes place in February each year).  Click here to see a list of all the prize winners.

Dinners for the A Block in each House were held on Friday evening and then, on Sunday, we enjoyed welcoming grandparents to our special Grandparents’ Day at which they were hosted by their grandsons, received communion at a service in the Chapel and enjoyed entertainment provided by our Choirs, Orchestra and Jazz Band, as well as some thespians, before having lunch. Unfortunately, it was a damp day, but we felt, nevertheless, that the principal reason for the day – an opportunity for the young to bond with the not-so-young – more than fulfilled its purpose. A number of grandparents commented warmly on the opportunity to engage over the morning and early afternoon with their grandsons.
