Rector’s eNews 17: 29 May 2024

It is an affirmation of the affection and, indeed, love that many Old Boys have for their school that saw over 300 making their way to Balgowan for a reunion with their peers over the weekend. A marquee had been set up on Hannah’s and, on Friday night, dinners were held for various year groups both in the marquee and at other venues. These were preceded by a very special ceremony at which St Michael Awards were conferred on two Old Boys, Keith Begg and Paul Fleischack. Keith Begg has achieved international recognition for his work in conservation, particularly in Mozambique and particularly with regard to the honey badger, whilst Paul Fleischack’s work has been of a more general nature in support of young people, educational leaders, environmental activists and in the field of biomimicry. The St Michael Award is the highest award which can be conferred on Old Boys and awardees should have displayed qualities of selflessness, integrity, compassion, courage and a sense of justice. Awardees are held up to the boys as men of outstanding calibre whom they should seek to emulate. Warm congratulations go to our two St Michael Awardees for 2024.
