Rector’s eNews – 12 October 2022

/ Rector's eNews

After months of learning and planning, the first Michaelhouse (online) Giving Day went live this morning at 9am! This has been the brainchild of Sean Lumley (Baines, 1994) Vice President of the Old Boys’ Club and Chairman of the Board’s Fundraising Committee. He has worked incredibly hard on this project, and deserves so much credit for the way in which the Michaelhouse community has been drawn together through it. There has been a build up over the past few weeks with a social media and email campaign sharing promo videos expertly produced by Ryan Baker (Mackenzie, 2008). Here is the link to the Giving Day YouTube channel where you will find all the videos and the livestreaming link. There are events going on most of the day – including boys doing challenges for donations and a very civilised ‘Eat Cake and (if you want to) donate’ at the Heritage Centre from 11am tomorrow (Thursday 12 October). There will be tea, coffee, branded Giving Day cakes, some live music, and a chance to get in front of the camera and challenge the community to join in on the livestream. If you are in the area, please come and join us!

We encourage you to follow our progress on the livestream and Giving Day website. We have had a wonderful response since Monday when the website went live for early donations with some 90 donors giving over R800 000. Some donations have been large and some small. ALL are significant.

Our aim is not a monetary figure, but numbers of donors (450 is the aim). This Giving Day is about coming together as a community and doing what we can to ensure Michaelhouse continues doing what it does: producing significant men that will go from here and contribute positively to humanity.

We are nearly 20% of the way to 450 donors and, with your help, we know we can get closer to our aim. Progress is updated hourly on the website and I will give the final results at Speech Day on Friday.
