  About Us

The Michaelhouse Estate

The Michaelhouse Estate is spread over 600 hectares of rolling hills, riverine bush, spring-fed dams, indigenous trees, grassland and immaculate formal grounds. The welcoming entrance down the pin-oak lined avenue of trees leads you past spreading playing fields, a state-of-the-art Indoor Sport Centre and complimenting aquatic, gymnasium and other sport facilities, to the ivy-clad clay-brick buildings of the School.

The cloistered, red-brick, double-storied buildings with their white window frames are planned around beautiful quadrangles, interspersed with fountains and statues. Archways and corridors connect each quadrangle, reminiscent of the architectural design of leading British Schools. The lower level of the School houses well-equipped classrooms, and wood-panelled Dining Rooms which lead out onto beautiful quadrangles. The upper level of the buildings is home to the 8 Boarding Houses, divided into recreational Common Rooms, individual bed-sits and dormitories.

The heart of the School is the Chapel, rebuilt in the post-war years to accommodate the increasing number of boys. Its central features are the magnificent Bossanyi stained-glass windows which are classified a National Heritage site. The hand-crafted solid teak pews remain the legacy of post World War 2 woodwork students.
