Sports Programme

The educational programme of any top school should reflect a balance between academic, cultural, environmental and sporting activities. In this respect Michaelhouse endeavours to remain at the cutting edge of each pursuit. Achievement in one area so often proves to be the key to the will to succeed in school life as a whole.

Michaelhouse offers a vibrant sport programme with a choice of 14 sport options. We are fortunate to enjoy some of the finest sporting facilities in the country.

The school has 12 playing fields including an Astroturf hockey facility, 7 turf cricket pitches, a dedicated cricket oval, an athletics track, 8 tennis courts, a 6-court squash complex with 3 glass-backed courts, 2 basketball courts, a 25m x 25m heated swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a golf driving range and a dam for canoeing enthusiasts.

To assist with planned fitness programmes, the gymnasium is equipped with professional weight training and aerobic equipment. Specific fitness programmes are designed for the boys and overseen by the specialist services of a Sport Scientist and Biokineticist. This provides each boy with the opportunity to develop physically in accordance with his sports' demands and to excel in his chosen fields.

The indoor Sports Centre is a popular venue for action cricket, basketball and indoor hockey.

The boys' sport talents are acknowledged at zonal, provincial and international level, with interschool fixtures played at first league level. Michaelhouse has produced in excess of 100 sportsmen who have played at international level.

It is a game which demands speed and high levels of skill and fitness and from the perspective of the spectator, is one of the most popular and widely supported sports in the world.
