DEBATING
Last Wednesday we hosted the final round of the Midlands Debating League. It was a good afternoon, made more so by the fact that both the Juniors and Seniors won their debates. The Seniors have been unbeaten so far this year, while the Juniors have only lost one debate. The Senior team consisted of Calvin van der Riet, Daniel McCarthy and Nick Turner (voted Best Speaker) and the Junior team were represented by Rati Mashego, Magashe Ngoepe and Brian Buchler (Best Speaker). Congratulations to all these boys.
Thanks must also go to Dustin Holohan, David Horscroft, Simon Watt-Pringle and Christopher Rossouw who assisted as Timekeepers and Chairpersons. Their help was greatly appreciated.
MAGIC OF MUSIC
We enjoyed an excellent evening of entertainment in our Chapel on Friday evening at the "Magic of Music". Our choir, marimba band and soloists, Sanda Shandu and Alex Poltera, provided fine music while after interval we were privileged to hear the superb sounds of the KZN Youth Choir featuring several of our boys.

WORLD INDIVIDUAL DEBATING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING CHAMPIONSHIPS
During the Easter holidays Dustin Holohan participated in the World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships in Munich, Germany. He was representing the South African team and did very well to come 53rd out of 180 speakers from around the world. The Competition consists of four categories, after dinner speech, debating, impromptu and reading. It must be remembered that many of the international competitors ?specialise? in public speaking and debating, this is all they do while Dustin is involved in the all-round Michaelhouse experience. Well done!
13/3/08
Our junior and senior Debaters have performed very well in the Midlands Debating League; the seniors winning all 5 rounds thus far and the juniors 4 out of 5 rounds. The final two rounds will be held at Michaelhouse on 30 April 2008. Well done to Nicholas Turner and David Horscroft (Senior Best Speaker Awards) and Rati Mashego and Magashe Ngoepe (Junior Best Speaker Awards.) Dustin Holohan leaves for Germany this weekend to participate in the World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships which start on 15 March 2008.
