Clubs and Societies

The Clubs and Societies of Michaelhouse provide a potent opportunity for self-development as well as an excellent vehicle for getting to know boys in a quite different environment.

Opportunities for leadership experience also exist, since most clubs have a committee responsible for organisation, motivation and administration.

There are the traditional societies such as Debating, Toastmasters and Chess. Others offer enrichment to subject disciplines such as History, Maths and Art. Then there are all the outdoor as well as the specialised interest groups.

With the exception of certain senior societies, membership extends to boys from all Houses and all ages. This enables boys to enjoy time spent in the pursuit of shared passions and interests. Perhaps most of all, it is within this framework that lifelong friendships are forged.

From the adrenalin rush of skydiving to the calm kaleidoscope of colour in the ocean below; from diving with dolphins in Mozambique to cresting the summit of Kilimanjaro at dawn; from revelling in the art treasures of Florence to marvelling at the mysteries of Nature in the Namib ... or from searching for snakes on our estate to working on the Wetlands project; Michaelhouse boys are able to enjoy this freedom to pursue a passion, be it tickling the trout or setting the jib off the wind.
