A 100% pass rate was again achieved by the 107 candidates who wrote the 2009 examinations.
99 boys (93%) achieved degree entry certificates (university entrance passes).
5 boys (5%) achieved diploma entry certificates.
3 boys (2%) achieved higher certificate entry level passes.

Confirmation from the IEB regarding the Physical Sciences Paper 1

"Umalusi approved the IEB results at its press conference on 21 December 2009 and referred specifically to the error in the Physical Sciences Paper 1. Regarding the IEB Physical Science, Prof Volmink, the Chair person of Umalusi, indicated that the Umalusi Assessment Standards Committee has taken into consideration the report from the IEB on the direct and the indirect impact of the error in Physical Science Paper 1 on learner performance. The Committee considered the degree of error as well as the degree of difficulty and has effected the necessary adjustments to ensure that this cohort of learners are not disadvantaged in Physical Science either in comparison with other 2009 subjects or with the 2008 Physical Science cohort. In other words Umalusi is satisfied that learners deserving to pass will have passed and learners deserving distinctions, will have attained that status.
The IEB is confident that the problem has been properly managed and Umalusi has also given its reassurance that the results are fair and reliable. However, should there be a learner who after he or she has received their results still feels that they could have done better, the IEB has gained permission from Umalusi to provide an opportunity for such learners to do Paper 1 again. These learners are requested to contact their schools as soon as they re-open to register to write this paper. There will be no charge for learners to redo the paper. It will be written on Wednesday, 17 February 2010. Candidates should be registered with the IEB by Friday, 29 January 2010. Learners may also apply for a re-check or a re-mark."
